Three Illini Advance on Day One of 2017 JSM Challenger

URBANA, Ill.  – The 2017 JSM Challenger commenced on Saturday afternoon as three current Illini advanced in the qualifying singles draw. Alex Brown, Noe Khlif and Aleks Kovacevic will continue competition on Sunday on court one.

Khlif {France} defeated Chakravarthi {USA}, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a come-from-behind victory. Kovacevic {USA} overcame Erik Ratta {USA}, 6-0, 6-1 and Brown {USA} topped Clark {USA}, 6-4, 7-5.

No. 3 seed, Ryan Shane {USA} was upset by Ronnie Schneider {USA} 6-1, 6-4. Sweden’s No. 4 seed, Mikael Ymer was the highest seeded player to advance in the draw with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Evan Zhu {USA}. No. 1 seed, Alexander Ward {Great Britain}, and No. 2 seed, JC Aragone {USA} each received byes in the first round.

Play will continue on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CT at the Atkins Tennis Center.
